Conditions for Admission

In addition to the successful completion of your coursework at Green River College, you will also need to meet the following requirements to be admitted for full admission to Stony Brook.

  • Achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 with 45 completed credit hours at Green River College
  • Achieve a minimum grade of 2.0 or higher in English 126, 127 or 128 at Green River College or a minimum of 80 on the iBT TOEFL or a 6.5 IELTS score
  • Proof of high school graduation
  • Submission of a SUNY or Common Application by March 1 for Fall enrollment or November 1 for Spring enrollment
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended including Green River College.

Admissions is guaranteed to the University, not to specific majors and programs. Additional criteria must be met for admission to restricted majors in the College of Engineering & Applied Sciences and the College of Business.

While a student at Green River College you will meet with International Student Advisors to ensure a smooth transition from the program to Stony Brook University. This will include submitting an application, academic documents, proof of high school graduation, as well as updated financial support documents for a new I-20 to Stony Brook University. As a newly admitted student, you will also be expected to attend the International Student Orientation, take a math and writing placement exam if you do not have English or Math at Green River College, other exams as appropriate, and register for courses as a full-time student.
