About Foundation for Success

Foundation for Success (IP 11) helps you establish a strong learning foundation and enables you to transition to school and life in the United States. As you adapt to a new culture and language, this extra class will ensure your success. Students in this program have many opportunities to develop and perfect their skills working alongside their Peer Mentors.

Program Information

Required for all new Intensive English Program (IEP) international students - All first-quarter students are enrolled in this one-quarter program. Students will attend weekly workshops with Peer Mentors and program staff.

  • College Success Skills - Class time will focus on topics like Healthcare, Safety, Good Communication, School Resources, Clubs and Activities, Study Skills, and much more.
  • Weekly Meetings with Mentors - Beyond the class time, mentors and students will meet an additional hour during each week to talk and go over issues important to the student, develop relationships, and find further connection to the campus, community and friends.

Peer Mentors are experienced students who listen to concerns you might have and speak with you from their own experience. Having someone to trust helps ease the worries of your new life here at Green River. You will be assigned a Peer Mentor during the first week of class. Peer Mentors look forward to helping you!

Testimonials

“I really enjoyed the snacks, and talking with other people in class, especially my peer mentor, and making friends.

"This class helped me know how to talk with other students, make friendships, catch a bus, and go shop for groceries. Furthermore, my mentor helped me a lot and taught me about life in America.”
