Student Employment

Student employment is a good option for students needing additional flexibility to balance school, childcare, and family responsibilities. Offices such as Student Life, Financial Aid, TRIO, CTW, IT Student Help Desk, Library, and more offer student work opportunities.

  • Green River advertises all student jobs on Handshake, the college's online job portal. Students must register with Handshake before they can view jobs and must apply for jobs through Handshake.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credits each quarter to be eligible for on campus employment. Students can work up to a maximum of 19 or 20 hours each week during the quarter. To qualify, students must be eligible either for Federal Work Study (financial aid) or WorkFirst Work Study (workforce education office).
  • Students are paid the King County Minimum Wage, which is currently $17.99 per hour.
  • Students must have valid work authorization to work in the U.S. to be eligible.
  • Many offices hire for student positions one time a year, usually in April-September. Employment options during the rest of the school year can be difficult to find.
  • If you need help working on your resume or writing a cover letter, connect with the Career Services team or Writing Center on campus.
