SI and Peer Assisted Study Sessions

Supplemental Instruction is a peer led academic support program intended for traditionally difficult coursework. SI has been validated by the US Department of Education to improve student outcomes such as grades and retention. The TRC has SI Leaders assigned across several areas of study.

How Does SI Work? What is PASS?

SI Leaders attend assigned class at least 50% of the time. They create weekly study sessions that match the course schedule and instructor emphasis. These Peer Assisted Study Sessions, run by SI Leaders are interactive and fun.  PASS sessions are open to any student taking the course, but if you are not in the SI supported section, the content may not fit your instructor's emphasis. These sessions do not work on homework or provide lectures. Students attending PASS sessions will be asked to engage in collaborative and active learning activities.

All students taking the supported subject are invited to SI Sessions! However the SI sessions follow the schedule of the Professor listed, which may vary slightly from other sections of the class. SI sessions are an opportunity for structured and collaborative review of course content. SI is shown by research to improve understanding of course content and is associated with higher grades and course completion. SI is not for when you need help; SI is an investment in your success.
