- Program Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older within 3 months of program completion.
- Completion of all required immunizations.
- Immunization requirements may vary by quarter, but the most commonly required immunizations are an annual Tuberculosis test, COVID-19 and Seasonal Flu vaccinations. Exemptions are not available.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening (includes marijuana).
- Funding Options:
- Workforce Education Services: Provides assistance with tuition, books, fees, tools, and individual support services to help students enter high-demand, high-wage careers.
- Financial Aid: FAFSA or WAFSA can cover the cost of this program via grants and loans.
About the Program
This program consists of two stackable certificates, both the Nursing Assistant and MA-Phlebotomy certificates. Graduates will be eligible for state examination and licensure for both MA-Phlebotomy and Nursing Assistant. Successful licensure will allow the graduate to work as a patient care or emergency room technician. The training provides basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, ethical, legal and regulatory issues, safety measures, infection control, special collections, and patient care.
Typical job duties for a patient care / emergency room technician include:
Patient Care Technician
- Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.
- Assist patients with basic activities they may be unable to perform independently, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Accurately documenting patient care activities, vital signs, and other relevant information in the patient's medical record.
- Offering emotional support, answering questions, and ensuring that patients' needs are addressed promptly.
Emergency Room Technician
- Perform initial assessments of patients entering the emergency room.
- Obtain and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.
- Assist in the care of trauma patients by providing immediate first aid and stabilization.
- Assist with basic medical procedures, such as wound care, splinting, and bandaging.
- Assist in the triage process by prioritizing patient care based on the severity of their condition.
Applications and Admissions
The ER PCT program admits students quarterly. Students must meet all eligiblity requirments, and submit an ER PCT application to be considered. The program is open until courses are filled.
Eligbility Requirements

- Once an application is submitted and processed, a ctcLink identification (ID) number will be issued through the email the applicant applied with.
- Must be 18 years of age or older within 3 months of program completion.
- Complete all required immunizations
- High school completion is not required for program participation, but it is required for phlebotomy licensure.
- Complete the ER PCT Applicaiton
