Required Immunizations and Tests for Nursing Students

To ensure the health and safety of our campus community, all nursing students (excluding phlebotomy) must complete the following immunizations and tests without exceptions.

TB Testing Options:

Option 1: Two-Step TB Test

  1. Visit 1: First TB skin test (TST) administered. Return in 48-72 hours for reading.
  2. Visit 2: Test evaluated. If negative, schedule a second test in 7-21 days. If positive, a chest x-ray is required, but students may attend classes if asymptomatic.
  3. Visit 3: Second TST administered 7-21 days later. Return in 48-72 hours for reading.
  4. Visit 4: Second test evaluated. Positive results lead to a chest x-ray, while negative results indicate no infection.

Annual TST: If your TST expires during the program, a one-step test is required annually.

Option 2: QuantiFERON Test

  • A blood test that detects TB without needing a follow-up visit. Results are typically available within 24-48 hours.

Additional Vaccinations:

  • Influenza: Annual flu vaccine required.

  • COVID-19: Proof of the COVID-19 vaccine required. Booster required for LPN and BSN programs.

  • Hepatitis B: Series of 2 or 3 injections, followed by a titer test.

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Proof of 2 doses or immunity through titer required.

  • Varicella: Proof of 2 doses or immunity through titer required.

  • Tdap: One dose required, with Td booster every 10 years.
