All students at Green River College who plan to attend for more than one term are encouraged to create an academic plan with their advisor. Academic planning helps you stay on track, take courses in the right sequence, and avoid unnecessary classes.
Additionally, some funding sources—such as Financial Aid or Workforce Education—may require you to submit an approved academic plan to maintain your funding.
Your academic plan should be created with your advisor during your first month of your first term, and no later than the end of your second term.
How to Create Your Plan
- Find your degree or certificate program and review the required courses.
- Run your Academic Requirements Report in ctcLink to see your progress and unmet requirements.
- If you plan to transfer to a university, make a list of schools that offer your intended major.
- Schedule an appointment with your advisor to create or update your plan.

Important Notes
- Include English and math early: If your degree requires these courses, make sure they are built into your first year.
- Plan around course sequencing: Some classes—especially in math, English, science, and accounting—must be taken in order and are not offered every term.
- Align your plan with transfer goals: Work with your advisor to create a plan that fulfills Green River’s degree requirements and prepares you for your future major at a university.
- Creating your plan is just the start of the process – it's important to continue to update and revise your plan with your advisor as you go.
