International students are required to have health insurance. Students will automatically be enrolled in insurance.

Cost:

See Costs & Payments.

Plan Details:

This is a sickness and accident medical plan and does not cover dental or vision.
See LewerMark Student Insurance for detailed information.

Exemption:

Students must have their own medical insurance to request an exemption. Email your certificate of coverage to international@greenriver.edu by close of business the first day of the quarter. The certificate must be in English, specify effective dates, and meet the following:

  • Medical coverage per accident or sickness no less than $500,000
  • Deductible per accident or sickness of no more than $100
  • Repatriation coverage minimum $25,000

We will review your exemption request and notify you if it is approved.

Coverage:

  • New international students: Coverage for an arriving student begins when student enters the U.S., no earlier than 30 days before classes begin.
  • Current students taking classes: Coverage starts the first day of the quarter, ends one day before the next quarter begins.
  • Current students with no classes (vacation, approved medical leave term, or Optional Practical Training [OPT]): Coverage ends the last day of the term a student attends class. Students can request continued coverage during breaks and vacation periods, or through the end of their OPT. If approved, the student must continue to pay premiums. (Students are encouraged to maintain health insurance during breaks and vacation periods to avoid gaps in coverage and pre-existing condition limitations.)
  • Graduating students: Coverage ends the last day of the term of attending classes. Students may request up to 60 days of continued coverage after graduation if:
    1. They are transferring to another educational institution; or
    2. They have completed studies in the US and are planning to return to their home country.
