Campus Life Leadership Program grants are awarded on the basis of merit to individuals who will be Green River College students in the forthcoming academic year and have a demonstrated interest in student leadership. Student Leaders for the 2024-2025 academic year must be accepted for enrollment at Green River College in the fall of 2025 as a full-time student. Each of the Campus Life Leadership Program grants may amount to over $6,000 annually. Some positions may require non-paid spring leadership training will be held in June. Mandatory full-time summer training will begin on September 3, 2024 for all student leaders, some positions may start on August 26th.

Resident Assistant Position Description

2024-2025

Appointment: Fall, Winter and Spring Terms

Supervisor Titles: Residential Complex Coordinator

Location of Position: Campus Corner Apartments at Green River College

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Student

Summary  

The Resident Assistant (R.A.) is student leader position committed to building a positive living environment in Student Housing that supports networking, community, and individual student personal and academic growth. The successful candidates will be supported in playing a major role in the lives of the residents through meaningful personal interactions, the implementation of programs, policies, and services at Green River College Student Housing. The ideal Resident Assistant must be able to work successfully on a team as needed, be self-motivated to work independently as needed, and must be flexible in living and working in a constantly changing and unpredictable environment.

Because of the nature of the Resident Assistant role, Student Housing recognizes that not all candidates will possess all these skills at the time of application.  As such, we look for candidates who demonstrate a commitment to learning. Candidates should be open to receiving training and feedback from their supervisor and/or peers to be successful in this challenging and rewarding experience.

The RA position is a nine (9) month commitment. The RA role is considered an essential position and may be required to support essential operations during emergencies, inclement weather, etc. at the direction of the professional staff.

Essential Duties:   

(50%) Develops Community

  • Plan, promote, and complete resident events or programs as designated
  • Assist and support residents in the completion of roommate agreements
  • Build and maintain community by establishing strong rapport and sense of respect with residents in your assigned buildings and the housing community at large
  • Assists residents with academic, personal, and social concerns, making timely referrals as necessary
  • Be present and available in community as necessary to promote social and academic development
  • Promotes and supports Green River College events and activities
  • Host Unit Meetings each Quarter

(30%) Provides initial support to residents

  • Serve a night of “duty”/“on-call” on a rotating basis with fellow RAs
  • Complete roves around the student housing site with Campus Safety during duty shift and respond to crisis situations as necessary
  • Document any incidents that occur during duty shifts.
  • Support emergency coordination with professional staff including fire, earthquake, and crisis situations as necessary
  • Respect the dignity of every person within the community and maintain confidentiality
  • Understand and support all College policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Assist in the mediation of roommate and other interpersonal conflicts that may arise
  • Respond to and report all violations of college policies
  • Works with professional staff to help resolve maintenance issues and safety concerns

(20%) Administrative

  • Responsible for completing requested written reports (duty log entries, room condition reports, incident reports, etc.)
  • Shut down and secure the Townsend Center as necessary during closing rove.
  • Distribute informational material as needed to residents
  • Log and organize student mail and packages as a primary function of office duty shifts
  • Answer phones, respond to email, and check messages in Microsoft Teams routinely
  • Manage keys and complete room checks for students moving in and out
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to inclusivity, self-reliance, initiative, responsibility, and integrity
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work on a team
  • Minimum GPA of 2.50
  • Be registered for 10 credit hours at GRC for all three quarters of employment
  • Must be 18 years old at time of hire

Time Commitment:

  • Participates in all trainings, staff meetings, openings and closings during the year
  • Helps with major Student Housing events such as Welcome Events, Residential Orientation, Health & Safety Inspections, and Resident Appreciation Week
  • Serves in a regular duty rotation (including Winter, Thanksgiving, and Spring Break)
  • Has limited opportunity for additional employment on or off campus
  • Is not away from campus for more than 2 days without prior approval from the Professional on-call

Because of the nature of the position, the Resident Assistant is expected to be a presence in their community, especially early in the quarter, a time critical for the development of a strong residential community.  Individuals who have significant time commitments that prevent them from participating fully in fall training, from being a strong presence in their communities early in the quarter or from assisting during opening and/or closing are expected to discuss those time commitments prior to accepting the position.  Such time commitments include but are not limited to preexisting off campus employment opportunities, internships, fieldwork, other student leader roles, and athletics.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is mid-to-high paced. The noise level is usually moderate.

Renumeration

Each Resident Assistant will receive an employee discount that will credit the entirety of the standard housing fee. Resident Assistants will also receive a reoccurring bi-weekly payment of approximately $340 during the period of their active service as an RA. Domestic Resident Assistants are encouraged to meet with a member of financial aid to determine the impact, if any, on their financial aid award.

GAB Member

Job Description

Appointment: Fall Term - Spring Term

Supervisor: Assistant Director of Student Life

Compensation: Minimum Wage

Workload: 12 Hours per week; includes Office Hours, Front Desk Shifts, Meetings

Job Summary

A GAB member is responsible for being part of a team that plans a variety of events and activities throughout the academic year.  Members of GAB will be responsible for planning and implementing weeklong events, recurring weekly events, and other events each quarter.  Programming efforts will focus on Arts & Culture, Special Events, Spirit Events, Volunteer Events, Wellness Events and the Gator Gives program.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Attend, facilitate and participate in weekly GAB meetings
  • Attend and actively participate in GAB hosted programs 
  • Facilitate the programming of activities of a diverse nature to entertain and educate students, staff, faculty, and the campus community 
  • Assist Student Life Promotions Assistant and Graphic Designer in developing a marketing plan for programs
  • Scheduling of rooms and equipment for GAB events/programs
  • Work to ensure that all required forms (i.e., contracts, purchasing requests, etc.) have been processed through the Office of Student Life
  • Attend the NACA regional conference 

Secondary Responsibilities

  1. Participate in student leadership training provided by the Campus Life office in summer and during non-teaching days throughout the school year
  2. Fulfill twelve (12) hours each week
  3. Work at the Front Desk in the Campus Life Office in scheduled shifts

Minimum Qualifications

International Student Ambassador (ISA) Team

Job Description

Appointment: Fall Term - Spring Term

Supervisor: International Activities Manager

Job Summary

A member of the International Student Ambassador team is responsible for being part of a team that plans a variety of events and activities throughout the academic year, including during the term breaks in September, December, March and June.  Members of the ISA team are responsible for planning and leading reoccurring weekly events, off campus events and other events each quarter.  Programming efforts will focus on International Students as well as encourage local students to participate.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in weekly ISA meetings
  • Plan and lead events on and off campus
  • Attend and actively participate in ISA hosted programs
  • Plan and lead the quarterly orientation events (international student orientation, Adventure Trip and the new student shopping trip) that happen during the term breaks 
  • Partner with the Social Media Ambassador team to promote events and Green River College
  • Scheduling of rooms and equipment for ISA events
  • Work to ensure that all required forms (i.e. contracts, purchasing requests, etc.) have been processed through the Office of Student Life
  • Facilitate the programming of activities of a diverse nature to entertain and bring Green River students together to share experiences and build relationships

Secondary Responsibilities

Job Description

Job Summary

An Office Assistant is responsible for being part of a team that connects students to the ODEI (Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) Program and introduce them to the programming, resources and services provided by the ODEI. Office Assistants will be responsible for managing the front-desk office duties, assist in overseeing the Book Loan Program, manage and create content for our social media, offer short-term referral services, and promote events from our Diversity Educational Series (DES).

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Attend, facilitate, and participate in weekly Office Assistant meetings 
  2. Attend, facilitate, and participate in monthly All-Staff meetings
  3. Attend, facilitate, and participate in at least two (2) check-in meetings a quarter with direct supervisor
  4. Provide clerical work and deliver exceptional customer service
  5. Cover the front-desk when needed and/or assigned
  6. Manage Social Media accounts in relation to events, culturally specific holidays, heritage months, and more
  7. Schedule student appointments and team meetings with Peer Navigators and ODEI Full-Time Staff
  8. Assist Program Coordinator with the Book Loan Program using Alma (library database system) and ODEI Book Request Form

A Peer Navigator is responsible for being part of a team that connects students to the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, introduces them to our programming, resources, services and mentors GRC students. Peer Navigators will be responsible for mentoring a cohort of GRC students enrolled in our ODEI program, planning events and programming as part of the Diversity Educational Series (DES), assist students in navigating campus resources and facilitating mentor sessions.
