Miranda Barril
International Student Advisor
Miranda was born and raised in Juneau, AK and is Tlingit Indian from the Kaagwaantaan
clan of Southeast Alaska. She found her passions and academic goals led her outside
of Alaska and attended college at Pacific University in Oregon and Nagoya Gakuin Daigaku
in Japan! Miranda has also worked through the Japanese Teaching Exchange Program and
lived in Japan for a few years to teach English to a variety of students and schools;
her favorite things to do in Japan are explore ramen shops, walk around local parks
and shrines, and of course, karaoke!
While working full-time for Microsoft after returning from Japan, Miranda also worked
towards an M.S. in International Relations and Global Studies through Northeastern
Univeristy; she graduated in 2020 and worked at both DigiPen Institute of Technology
and the University of Alaska Southeast helping international students and study abroad
students.
In her free time, she loves to work on beading projects, take walks around parks,
read and of course, play video games! She has two cats by the names of Momo and Satsu;
be prepared to be swarmed with cat photos if you mention them!
