About Court Reporting and Captioning
Court Reporting and Captioning are exciting careers that use special technology to turn spoken words into written text. Court reporters write down everything said during court cases, meetings, or hearings. Captioners create live captions for TV shows, videos, and events so that people who are deaf or hard of hearing can follow along in real time.
Green River offers several options: an Associate of Applied Arts degree in Realtime Transcription, a Bachelor of Applied Science in Realtime Reporting, and a certificate in Scoping. You can take classes on campus or online.
The program is approved by the National Court Reporters Association, which means it meets high standards. Career paths include courtroom or freelance reporting, live TV and sports captioning, educational captioning (CART), realtime webcasting, and transcription work. If you enjoy language, technology, and helping others, this could be a great career for you!
