Villa Albertine
- Under the leadership of Mohamed Bouabdallah, Cultural Counselor of France and Director of Villa Albertine, we craft projects and programs aimed at making French language and culture accessible to US audiences and build partnerships between French and American higher education institutions. Campus France
- Most U.S. students who decide to study in France are eligible for various types of scholarships and grants. Here are some helpful resources for your research. Search for a variety of grants, scholarships, and fellowships to help fund study abroad in France.
American Association of Teachers of French (AATF)
- The AATF is able to offer one scholarship for study abroad to a future teacher of French. This $3000.00 scholarship is intended to help a student pay for a semester or year’s study abroad experience he/she/they might not otherwise be able to afford. Additionally, in partnership with AFS-USA, the AATF is excited to launch a new scholarship for students of French to participate in the AFS France Summer Camp program in late June/July 2025 with a $7,500 scholarship.
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD Scholarships)
- Would you like to study, carry out research or learn German in Germany and are you looking for funding? Every year, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports well over 100,000 German and international students and researchers around the globe – making it the world's largest funding organization of its kind.
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX)
- The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) scholarship is for motivated high school students who want to experience a culture and learn a language through a full immersion experience. Learn about German culture first-hand by living with a host family and attending a German high school. Embark on an adventure that is unlike any other. The CBYX program additionally offers vocational and young professional scholarship opportunities.
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) for Young Professionals
- The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals program offers two months of intensive German language training in Germany (no prior German language knowledge required), four months of classroom instruction at a German university or college of applied sciences, and a five-month internship in each participant’s career field.
Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung
- The Scholarship Department of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung awards financial grants to highly-qualified undergraduate and doctoral students from Germany and abroad who evidence high levels of social and political engagement. In granting scholarships, the Stiftung seeks to counteract the social, political and gender discrimination prevalent in our society, and therefore gives preference to applications from women, students of non-academic and migrant backgrounds, the socially needy, and people with disabilities who demonstrate comparable achievements and commitment. Applications from undergraduate and doctoral students from scientific and technical disciplines are actively encouraged, as well as from graduates of technical colleges.
IU University of Applied Sciences
- Every month we award a total of four 50% scholarships to selected individuals who are not yet enrolled at IU International University of Applied Sciences. With the IU scholarship, we primarily support people with disabilities, women in tech, single parents or new beginners who want to follow their very own educational path.
American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP)
- The AATSP offers three types of travel stipends to support attendance at the annual conference. There are awards for graduate students, PreK-12, and higher education faculty, including community college faculty. AATSP Study Abroad Scholarships provide up to $1,000 for travel to and study in a Hispanic or Luso-Brazilian country. We thank all of our study abroad hosts and co-sponsors listed below for their support. AATSP Travel Stipends for Research Abroad provides $1,000 for travel to and research in a Hispanic or Luso-Brazilian country.
Japanese Government Scholarships
- The MEXT Undergraduate Studies Scholarship is for high school seniors or recent graduates who intend to earn an undergraduate degree from a Japanese university. It provides for airfare to Japan, tuition for the university, and a stipend for cost of living. The scholarship is open to students pursuing any major and is intended to provide the student with a one-year program of intensive Japanese study and then complete an undergraduate degree (typically a four-year program), for five years on the scholarship.
Blakemore Foundation
- Blakemore Freeman Fellowships are awarded for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters) of advanced level language study in East or Southeast Asia. Fellowships cover tuition, and a stipend for related educational expenses, basic living costs and transportation. The site for the Japanese program is the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies in Yokohama, Japan.
United States~Japan Bridging Foundation
- The Bridging Scholarship is a life-changing opportunity to study abroad in Japan in a credit-bearing semester or academic-year program. Each year approximately 70-100 academically outstanding, financially deserving U.S. undergraduate students are selected as Bridging Scholars. In addition to receiving a cash stipend, Bridging Scholars participate in cohort programming designed to assist students build a future as a global citizen with a lifelong connection to Japan.
Freeman-ASIA
- A Freeman-ASIA award provides need-based funding to assist the recipient with the cost of a study abroad program and related expenses, including airfare, basic living costs, local transportation, books, etc. Freeman-ASIA accepts applications from U.S. citizens or permanent residents studying at the undergraduate level at a two-year or four-year college or university who demonstrate financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
Critical Language Scholarship (CLS)
- CLS Program institutes cover approximately one academic year of university-level language coursework during an eight- to ten-week program and are designed to meet the needs of students from a variety of language levels and backgrounds. Formal classroom language instruction is provided for a minimum of 15 hours per week. Extracurricular activities are designed to supplement the formal curriculum, including regular one-on-one meetings with native speaker language partners for conversational practice, as well as cultural activities and excursions designed to expand students’ understanding of the history, politics, culture, and daily life of their host country.
The Language Flagship
- The Language Flagship is a federally funded initiative that offers 19 language programs at higher education institutions across the United States to help undergraduate students take their place as the next generation of global professionals with professional-level proficiency in critical languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, and Russian. At the end of the program, the Language Flagship sponsors a year-long Overseas Capstone program for students to use their language skills in a wide variety of formal and informal settings.
Gilman Scholarship
- The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program (Gilman Program) enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. To be eligible for the Gilman Program, applicants must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship.
Fulbright U.S. Student Program
- In partnership with more than 140 countries worldwide, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers unparalleled opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds. Program participants pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad.
Fulbright Global Scholar Award
- The Fulbright Global Scholar Award allows U.S. academics and professionals to engage in multi-country, trans-regional projects. As a truly worldwide award, U.S. scholars will be able to propose research or combined teaching/research activity in two to three countries within two different world regions with flexible schedule options; trips can be conducted within one academic year or spread over two consecutive years.
Phi Theta Kappa International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP)
- Phi Theta Kappa members may apply for tuition scholarships for study-abroad programs offered by the International Scholar Laureate Program, or ISLP. Scholarship applications are typically due in early March. Students may study in five career fields: business, diplomacy and international relations, engineering, medicine, and nursing. ISLP programs provide students a chance to further their career development and strengthen their leadership skills while engaging in culturally enriching experiences that increase their knowledge and preparation for a specific career while providing a global understanding of the career field. Phi Theta Kappa has partnered with the ISLP, which has set aside scholarship dollars specifically for Phi Theta Kappa members. Scholarship selection is based on financial need, academic merit, and student involvement in extracurricular and volunteer activities.
Boren Awards
- The Boren Awards fund the intensive study of language and culture abroad by U.S. undergraduate or graduate students. All eligible applicants have the option to either apply for a Regional Flagship Language Initiative or select/design their own study program.
