What Are Areas of Interest?

Areas of Interest highlight the most direct path to your academic and career goals.

There are three steps:

  1. Choose a broad field of interest. Choosing a broad field of interest, such as health sciences or business, for example. Then embark on a “pathway”—a program of classes tailored to careers in your field.

  2. Make a plan. It can be tough to figure out which classes you need for your career. With Areas of Interest, advisors recommend courses for admitted students, so there’s no guesswork. They tell you how to complete them in the right order to earn your degree as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

  3. Become career-ready. Your classes help you discover the subjects and activities that interest you most. Advisors explain your career options. They pinpoint those that leverage your strengths. As you zero in on a career choice, they flag special courses you may need for your field. You graduate ready to launch your career.

Areas of Interest are modeled after Guided Pathways, a college-to-career support program that’s brought professional success to students nationwide.
