Green River College and Western Washington University establish guaranteed transfer admission agreement
Students at Green River College now have a clear and guaranteed pathway to a bachelor’s degree at Western Washington University through a new transfer agreement announced by both institutions.

The partnership guarantees admission to Western for Green River students who complete an eligible transfer degree and meet established academic requirements, creating a more predictable and supported path to continue their education.
“This agreement reflects our commitment to meeting students where theyare and helping them move forward with confidence,” said President George Frasier. “Transfer should be a clear next step, not a barrier. By aligning our institutions more closely, we are creating a pathway that supports completion and expands opportunity for our students.”
Under the agreement, Green River College students qualify for guaranteed admission to Western if they:
- Complete an Associate in Arts – Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) or Associate in Science – Transfer (AS-T) degree
- Earn a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Earn at least a 2.0 GPA in the last quarter before applying for admission and the final quarter before transferring
Students admitted through the program will enter Western as juniors, prepared to continue directly into their chosen field of study.
In addition to general admission, eligible students may qualify for direct entry into nearly 30 academic majors at Western. Some programs may require additional prerequisites or selective admission steps.
“This agreement reflects our shared commitment to expanding access and removing barriers for transfer students,” said President Sabah Randhawa of Western Washington University. “Western is proud to partner with Green River to create a reliable, student-centered pathway to a four-year degree.”
To further reduce barriers, the $70 application fee will be waived for Green River students applying through this pathway.
The agreement also connects students early with advisors from both institutions, helping them choose courses aligned with their intended majors and stay on track for transfer. Green River and Western will collaborate on advising, outreach, and ongoing evaluation to ensure the pathway continues to meet student needs.
