U.S. Congressman Adam Smith visits GRC

U.S. Congressman Adam Smith visited GRC's main Auburn campus on Jan. 25 to discuss some of the most pressing issues facing community colleges and their students.

Rep. Smith met with the  ASGRC Student Body leadership team, students and faculty from GRC's Health Occupation programs, and members of the College's executive team. Topics ranged from the challenges and needs in the nursing community, mental health issues facing college students, how students and GRC responded to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the cost of textbooks and school supplies. 

Congressman Smith is U.S. representative for Washington's 9th congressional district, which spans from Bellevue to Tacoma. Rep. Smith was elected to the Wasington State Senate in 1990; at age 25, he was the youngest state senator in the country. He ran in and won his first congressional race in 1996, and has been reelected 11 times. In 2019, he became chair of the House Armed Services Committee. He is the dean of Washington's House delegation.
