The IT department has become aware of a compromise of some internal email accounts.

Compromised accounts are being used to target student mailboxes with scam emails with the subject line: "Re: Unicef Job Employment". This new scam advertises a fictitious job opportunity and asks recipients to reply to an @unicefjob-usa email (fake). Typically, scammers then attempt to extract money from respondents by convincing them to provide a deposit before beginning their fake employment.

Example of a recent phishing email where the sender poses as someone sharing a UNICEF job offer

If you've received a message like this, delete it and do not respond. If you have corresponded with the individuals sending the message, we advise that you change any relevant passwords, and if any financial information was exchanged, contact your bank for fraud monitoring.

If you have any questions about this communication, please contact the IT Student Help Desk at 253-931-6465 or via the Connect Through Zoom on the Campus' Virtual Assistance page( GRC Virtual Assistance - Green River College).

IT department advises storing your personal passwords in a personal password vault, some of which are available commercially and with free trials. While GRC IT cannot provide advice or consultation on specific products to use, some commonly used products in that field include Bitwarden, KeePass, LastPass, and OnePassword. Thank you,

GRC IT Department

Important Dates and Deadlines for Fall Quarter

On Oct. 11, 2021, Green River College will be transitioning its student management system to ctcLink. Because this transition represents a complete systems shift, some of the usual (and important) fall quarter dates and deadlines have been shifted:

  • Sept. 24, 2021
    • Last day to add/drop courses in current system
    • 100% tuition refund period ends
    • Last day to pay tuition in current system
    • Financial aid must be finalized in current system for fall quarter
    • Emergency assistance applications submitted by September 10 will be processed

Note: Please be sure to have fall class registration and tuition payments completed before Sept. 24, 2021. (The third STEP payment is not due until Oct. 26, 2021.) If registration changes need to be made between Sep. 25 and Oct. 25, an electronic form will be available to use to submit registration change requests.

To support this significant systems change, several student support services will be closed to the public (but working hard behind closed doors) between Oct. 1 - Oct. 22, 2021. These service areas include:

  • Office of the Registrar
  • Financial Aid
  • Cashiering
  • International Programs (Admissions & Business)
  • Disability Support Services (partial closure)
  • Veterans Services (partial closure)

Please know that we'll do everything humanly possible to reopen these student support services as soon as possible. Processes normally handled through these offices will be suspended while the office is closed (e.g., transcripts, evaluations, admissions, registration, payments, etc.). Thank you for your patience! eLearning Classes Information - Fall Quarter

Hello,

Welcome to the Fall, 2021 term at Green River College!

According to our records, you are registered for at least one eLearning course (hybrid, online, virtual, or virtual-hybrid course). If this registration is in error, you need to log in and drop the class(es) to avoid tuition charges. Otherwise, read on for some tips on preparing for Fall quarter.

Getting Started
  • If you don't already have them, you can look up your email address and/or your Student ID number
  • To begin your courses, refer to the Preparing for eLearning Classes resources. This includes:
    • Canvas, Green River College's online learning system, is where you will find class information, assignments and interact with your instructors and classmates.  You can practice using Canvas before your class starts with the My GRC Backpack: Your Guide to Canvas, Tech, & Resources at Green River College course
    • Your class starts when the instructor publishes it; then the course shows on your Canvas Dashboard (main page).
    • You are put into Canvas classes three days before the start of the quarter, but instructors can choose to publish then or wait until the first day of class. All courses will be published automatically on the first day of class at noon.
    • If your class isn't published by the end of the first day, you can contact your instructor by clicking on Help in the left-hand menu, then Ask My Professor A Question in Canvas.
  • The computer requirement checklist helps ensure you have the essential technology for online success. This includes operating systems, software and equipment. You can check out technology or get help with purchasing technology by emailing studentsuccess@greenriver.edu.
  • And more
Exams and Online Proctoring

Some of your eLearning courses may require you to use proctoring software to take monitored online exams (ex. Respondus, HonorLock, Panopto). Your instructor will indicate this requirement via the course syllabus, Canvas announcement or an email.

Online Support

Find help through the Canvas Help menu. The Virtual Assistance Lobbies also has links to Zoom, email addresses and phone numbers.

Sincerely,

The eLearning Team

Hello Students,

We're working hard to replace our old systems with new, up-to-date technology. On Oct. 11, 2021, Green River College will be transitioning its student management system to ctcLink. ctcLink is a new system that gives students, faculty, and staff anytime, anywhere access to their college business. ctcLink will contain all your important student information, including class schedules, student records, advising notes, financial aid, preferred contact information, etc.

Note: Please be sure to have fall class registration and tuition payments done before Sept.

Learn more about ctcLink

As GRC approaches the ctcLink go-live date you will see a pickup in emails. Our new ctcLink website will continually be updated with news, FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions), resources, how-to guides, and more so stay tuned!

Hello Students,

Important changes are coming to student emails. As of September 13, 2021, enrolled students will receive a new email address.

What you need to know:

  • All official email from the college (advisors, teachers, student affairs) will go to your NEW email address.
  • Your old GRC email will:
    • remain accessible (email, OneDrive, etc.) for a while so you can save any materials you need (we will send alerts to your NEW email before the old one will be deactivated)
  • Your new GRC email will:
    • have full Microsoft 365 access while you're an active student (OneDrive, Teams, Office Products like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • be made inactive three weeks after the last registered term (meaning you can log in, but access is to email only)

All GRC students registered for Fall Quarter 2021 will receive new Green River email accounts on Monday September 13, 2021. Old student email accounts will not be used for official communication from the college. However, students with old student email accounts will still be able to log in to their accounts, see and save any emails, and see and save any files in their OneDrive account.

The new format will follow the naming convention (with numeric increments for duplicate names):

lastname.firstname.#@student.greenriver.edu

That this means for you:

  • Starting September 13 your new student email account will be available to use. To look up your new email and set your password, please visit https://www.greenriver.edu/studentemail  on or after September 13, 2021.
  • As of September 13, the information you use to log in to your new student email account will be synchronized across the various tools, apps, websites, and services at Green River College. For example, the username and password you'll use to log in to your student email account will also work to log in to Canvas.
  • The Microsoft Office365 licenses associated with your new student email account expires three weeks after the end of your last registered term (unless, of course, you've already registered for a course in a future term).
  • Student email accounts and any associated content are now deleted one year after the last quarter you attend Green River College. Deleted means the account and content of the account are removed and not recoverable. That said, if you re-enroll in a course after your account has been deleted, the same email alias/address will be assigned to you, though you'll not have any of your old emails or contents of your old OneDrive available.

Eventually the old email accounts will be deactivated, and you will no longer be able to access them. However, email alerts will be sent before that happens when a date has been decided.

Our new ctcLink website will continually be updated with news, FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions), resources, how-to guides, and more so stay tuned!

My Green River (http://my.greenriver.edu) will be temporarily taken down for upgrades to our new ctcLink system from September 7, 2021 to October 25, 2021.

Starting October 25, when you click on the My Green River portal button in the Quick Links section found in the upper right-hand corner of the GRC website (or if you go to http://my.greenriver.edu) you will be taken to a new resources menu — including a link to "ctcLink."

Green River College will be closed to the public each Friday between April 30 and June 18, as the College prepares to transition to ctcLink, the PeopleSoft-based system that will replace our current legacy student- and employee-facing software system. During this time, instructional classes and library services will continue as scheduled; however, many student support services (including the GRC Virtual Assistance portal) and campus offices will be closed so employees can participate in necessary training.

The dates that these services will be closed are: April 30, May 7, May 14, May 21, May 28, June 4, June 11, and June 18. Emails and messages will be responded to at the earliest opportunity.

ctcLink is a new, system-wide administrative software solution developed by the Washington community and technical college system to replace outdated computer systems with a set of common, mobile-friendly tools.

The move to ctcLink will give faculty, students, and staff access to modern functionality and a more efficient way to conduct their GRC business. It will also provide students a more common experience across all 34 Washington community and technical colleges, whether they transfer from one college to another or attend two or more colleges at once.

GRC is currently in the implementation phase of the ctcLink project and will go-live in October 2021. The next few months are vital to the project's success and the next steps will require a lot of heavy lifting by GRC employees. Because this update impacts all GRC systems, it's important that we're properly prepared and ready to provide a great experience to our students, staff, and faculty as soon as the system goes live. As such, these Fridays will be provided for our campus subject matter experts (SMEs), and identified faculty and staff, to complete self-paced training.

Employees should not schedule other meetings during the Friday closures to ensure that time is dedicated to this training. Similarly, employee services like Payroll, Benefits, check pick-up, and inter-campus mail will not be available on Fridays. Online services, like TLR and Employee Earnings & Leave, will continue to be available.

Required trainings for GRC employees can be found on our ctcLink Training webpage. If you have questions regarding your specific role and the trainings you should take, please reach out to your supervisor or a member of the ctcLink Project Leadership Team.
