Intro to Humanities
An education in the Humanities cultivates invaluable and practical skills for a productive career and an engaged life. As a Humanities student, you will learn critical and creative thinking, effective communication with diverse groups, and gain insight into how language and culture shape our world. You will address life's big questions and learn how to navigate workplace and personal communication with care and respect. With these skills, you'll be ready to tackle challenges, connect meaningfully with others, and make a difference.
Within the Humanities Division, students can take classes and degree concentrations in subjects that cover Asian Studies, Communication Studies, Diversity Studies, Film, Gender Studies, Global Studies, Hispanic and Latin American Studies, Information Studies, Philosophy, and Foreign Languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. The Humanities Division also includes faculty counselors who provide mental health services and faculty librarians who assist with student research and instructional support.
Communication Studies
Human communication and behavior, patterns of communication in interpersonal relationships, social interactions and communication in different cultures.

Film Studies deals with various theoretical, historical, and critical approaches to cinema as an art form and a medium.

Foreign Languages
Foreign Language studies offers a sense of the past; culturally and linguistically.
Gender Studies
Focuses on the complex interaction of gender with other identity markers such as race, ethnicity, sexuality, nation, and religion

Primarily concerned with analysis, collection, classification, manipulation, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information.

Journalism
Learn the role journalism plays in society as well as the forces that shape journalism. A key component of Journalism Studies is media literacy, which is the ability to thoughtfully analyze messages disseminated through the news media.

Latin American Studies
Focus on the history, politics, social organization, economy, geography, music, religion, art, and literature of Central and South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Philosophy
Study the nature of existence, knowledge, truth and ethics. It involves consideration of the most fundamental questions about who we are, and examines philosophical thought across the breadth of history right up to the present day.
