GRC Campus Safety partners with Auburn Police to update campus training materials
By Philip Denman, June 6, 2019
Green River College Campus Safety is partnering with the Auburn Police Department to produce a video to educate the campus community on steps to take during a potential active shooter situation.
The production will take place on campus tomorrow, June 8, between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and will emphasize the “run, hide, defend” concept. Please be aware that law enforcement officers and vehicles will on campus on Saturday for and during the production of the training video.
While the statistical chances of an active shooter situation are remote--about one in a million--Derek Ronnfeldt, director, Campus Safety, believes that knowing how to respond can make all the difference.
"Although Green River College and our local law enforcement have comprehensive plans and policies in place, you have a role as well. Run, hide, defend, is a model that is simply remembered that we have adopted on all of our campuses. This is your plan for what to do if someone with a weapon is actively trying to kill or hurt people," Ronnfeldt said. "Although it is very unlikely that you will ever need to use these steps, it is still important to understand what you would do during an active shooter situation."
Students, faculty or staff interested in participating in the video production should meet in the Student Affairs and Success Center, room 156 at 10 a.m. Pizza and refreshments will be served to participants.
