Running Start

The Running Start program was created by the state legislature in the early 1990's as an opportunity for eligible high school juniors and seniors to earn college-level credit, tuition free.
Running Start is a good fit for students who:
- Are ready for the challenge of college-level coursework.
- Are motivated to participate in the college environment and possess the maturity to do so.
- Seek academic challenges not available at their high school.
Prospective Students
Running Start Information Sessions
- Information sessions will resume in the fall.
Presentation lasts approximately 30 minutes with time for questions afterward and will cover general Running Start information and steps for enrolling in the program.
GRCC's Running Start at a glance:
- Students from over 30 high schools and 15 school districts.
- Over 1,100 participants per quarter.
- The average GPA is approximately 3.0.
- Mixture of full-time and part-time students.
- Students enrolled in both transfer and professional/ technical programs.
Meet the Staff
The Running Start staff are dedicated to helping students begin their college journey at Green River by providing guidance, education and direction into the world of higher education. We offer strategies for navigating college programs through workshops, meetings, emails, our website, etc. We are available Monday through Friday for appointments, email, and phone communications.

Mollie Dow
- Employed at Green River since: 2005
- Education: Associate of Science at Mt Hood Community College
- Specialty: Running Start
- Notable Fact: Mollie loves to bake, especially yeast breads and rolls (cinnamon and raisin rolls). She is a grandmother of 7-5 boys, 2 girls. Their ages are 7 months to 11 years old. Number 8 will be due in June 2013. Her favorite sport is basketball.
