University Transfer Pathway

How it Works:

Green River Community College international students have been admitted to hundreds of universities all over the US. Students gain the qualifications needed for admission at Green River Community College and transfer to top universities as third year juniors. Admission is not guaranteed, but our students have been very successful in gaining admission to top universities.

The following universities have offered the University Transfer Pathway option to any student who is admitted to Green River. The guarantee does not apply to impacted majors. This is how it works:

  1. Apply to GRCC Apply online or on paper.
  2. Select a university Choose the university from the list. Check the university on the application. The list is below. Choose one university only. Make sure the university you choose has your major.

Impacted Majors: Majors indicated with an "i" are "impacted majors", meaning that there may be higher or additional requirements for admission in those majors. Majors can become impacted without prior notice, and so it is good to check with the UTP universities on this when applying to them.

Notes:

  1. Conditions of admission Each cooperating university issues its own admissions letter with its conditions clearly outlined therein. The conditions of admission indicated in the letters can change without notice, and take precedence over the information contained in this chart.
  2. Impacted majors Impacted majors are those in very popular fields where there are special admission requirements in addition to the guaranteed conditional admission requirements above. Architecture and nursing are often two such fields. Check the websites to see which majors are impacted, and what their special requirements are.
  3. Transferable credits These refer to college-level courses which generally transfer to universities. Most but not all academic classes numbered 100 or higher transfer. Read 104 and Engl 100 are two commonly-taken GRCC courses numbered 100 or higher that do not transfer. Classes numbered lower than 100 are considered developmental courses and do not transfer. Most college students can earn 90 transferable quarters in two years, although they may need a summer quarter to do so.
  4. Associate Degree This can mean Associate in Business Administration, Associate of Arts or Associate in Science.
  5. English composition courses Engl &101 and one of English 126, 127 or 128, two classes in total, are the standard freshman and sophomore composition classes required by all US colleges and universities. English 126 is writing for humanities, 127 writing for social sciences, and 128 for science/engineering/business. Most international students take Engl 128.
  6. Minimum GRCC gpa The minimum gpa required to earn a GRCC Associate Degree is 2.0. Most international students do far better. In Spring 2011, the median GRCC international student gpa was 3.50.

Will a University Transfer Pathyway letter or statement help me get a US student visa?

It may help, but the main purpose of the program is to help you plan your academic program in the US. You should be familiar with both GRCC and the university when you apply for a visa. Visas cannot be guaranteed.

Do I have to transfer to the university which issues me the letter?

No. You can transfer anywhere you want.

Will the UTP partner school contact me?

Yes. GRCC will provide your contact information for the university to contact you.

How much does this program cost?

It's free.

Can I apply to a different UTP school later?

Yes. You can use UTP to transfer to any UTP partner school at anytime.
